About Orlando, Florida

Orlando, Florida is rich with history and stories dating back to the early 1800's. This popular vacation spot has evolved with the major events in its national heritage. Beginning life as an outpost at Fort Gatlin, it has survived the American Civil War, was deeply involved the housing boom and Depression of the 1920's, to leading the tourism surge in 1965 when Walt Disney announced his plans to build a theme park in Florida.

Today Orlando is a thriving metropolis, containing the major city of Kissimme, as well as the actual home of the Disney theme parks, Lake Buena Vista. Disney is not the only one attracting over 52 million vacationers per year. Other major attractions include SeaWorld, Universal Studios, and Gatorland. And of course, some of the best golf courses in the nation.

Orlando is not all fun and games, however. It is close to the Kennedy Space Center, both Air and Naval bases, and the excellent weather has made it home to many technical companies. Many museums, such as Cornell Fine Arts Museum and Orlando Science Center also dot the area.
